Gonorrhea is cured with dual antibiotics and symptoms should subside by or before the completion of the antibiotic treatment. However, more than half of all gonorrhea infections in the United States were estimated to be resistant to at least one antibiotic in 2019; hence a different antibiotic treatment may be required for successful treatment. In addition, antibiotics do not repair any permanent damage done by the disease; hence symptoms of tissue damage may be possible, or another STD (e.g. chlamydia) could be causing symptoms, and treatment for that will also be required. Please consult your health care provider for follow up testing and/or treatment.
